Latest News

Dear Friends

It’s great news that our churches are now open for private prayer (St Leodegar’s on Saturdays from 1pm – 4pm and St Stephen’s on Sundays and Wednesdays also from 1pm-4pm) and  we hope that many of you will be able to take the opportunity to spend a bit of time, praying quietly, in one or other of our churches. Thank you to those who are making this possible.

You will also be aware of the government’s announcement this week that, from 4th July, churches can provide services of worship, although without singing. This, also, is great news and we look forward to the day when we can begin to meet and worship together, whatever form that takes.

At this stage we are awaiting guidance from the Diocese as to what we will be able to do and what measures we need to put in place. As you will appreciate, once we know this guidance, we will need to take time to put appropriate measures in place, both to provide the best form of worship we can and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all who come.

In view of this, we wanted you to know that we will let it be known, through our various forms of communication, when our services will restart and what form they will take. We hope it won’t be too much longer but please do wait for further advice.

Thank you

Stephen, Kat, Joan, Lynn, Peter and Robert

Appointment of new Vicar
The Benefice of St Stephen’s and St Leodegar’s, with the Diocese of Chichester and Bishop Luffa School, are very pleased to announce that it is planned to make a shared appointment of Incumbent/Vicar to the parishes of St Stephen’s, North Mundham with Merston, and St Leodegar’s Hunston (half time/0.5) and Chaplain at Bishop Luffa School (half time/0.5).

Further details can be seen in the Minutes of the PCCs 21 May 2020,  available on request, and in the forthcoming August edition of ‘Connect’.

Bearing in mind the Coronavirus circumstances and restrictions it is not clear when the shared appointment can be made but it is hoped to advertise the appointment soon.

Virtual All Age Worship No.11 – Sunday 6th June 2020
Alistair Ghinn has also put together a YouTube video playlist in which he hosts an All Age Worship Service. It is well worth watching! It is followed by other resources that may be helpful for the time that we are housebound.
Here’s the YouTube link for our All Age Service service and supporting worksheets:

I do hope it’s a great help and encouragement for you in these extraordinary circumstances.
Feel free to forward it on to anyone else.

As a Diocese we are marking the campaign, Thy Kingdom Come, with a series of events including a daily short prayer at Noon called “Praying for the Diocese with Bishop Martin”.

In a video message, published today on the Feast of the Ascension, the Bishop explains why the days between Ascension and Pentecost can deepen our prayer life together especially in these challenging times and invites you to prayer with him for the diocese.

You can watch the Youtube video here

Please do share this invitation video widely in your church communities as we hope to get as many people as possible to take part.

You can join in Praying for the Diocese with Bishop Martin via Youtube, the diocesan website and the diocesan social media channels, Twitter and Facebook.

Virtual St Leodegars Service

Thanks to Kat Walker and Peter Saunders, and with the help of many others, we have a virtual Sunday Service to share for 26th April

It would be nice if we watch it together at 9:30 am on Sunday, when our usual church meeting would have happened, so that we are worshipping together while being apart!

Are the one to coordinate the advertisements for our magazine?

Once a year, the Advertising Coordinator liaises with advertisers and collect fees. S/he also generate additional advertisers. The ‘busy period’ is between October (when advertisers are sent reminders of their fees) and January (when most fees are collected). During the year the workload is much reduced.

Please contact the Leadership team (Stephen Everard, Katrina Walker, Alistair Ghinn or the Churchwardens – contact details on page 29 of the ‘connect’ magazine) or the Editor (07886873690 or editor.churches@hotmail.co.uk) if you are interested.
